The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

M. Sage - Oaklees & Tact Scraptics (Bandcamp)

WHAT THE COVER LOOKS LIKE:

WHAT WE SAY:

It's a testament to a great producer when a "collection of fragments, sketches, environments, & atmospheres" from the last 3 years, sound more imaginative & cohesive than a lot of dedicated LPs. Welcome to the laid back, wobbly world of M Sage.

WHAT YOUR EARS SAY:

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY:

A collection of fragments, sketches, environments, and atmospheres from 2017-2020. A companion to "Cattails & Scrap Tactics." A brief word:

"I am in the studio all the time. I am always doodling around and trying ideas and tactics out. I want to be playing around all the time so that way, when I have the opportunity to work on an album-shaped thing, my tools are sharp and my hands are loose. It is also a great low-stakes way to make discoveries. Sometimes those discoveries lead to bigger projects, sometimes they go in the trashcan. So, I have folders and folders full of scraps, doodles, new ideas, old ideas tried again, discoveries, mistakes, bad ideas.... Most of that stuff will never be released.

These bits and pieces felt like a cohesive, though still varied, showcase of some of my studio scraps from the last 3 or so years. Nothing about this set of sketches is refined, perfect, polished. Just a few exciting little forgotten things pulled from the folders to be shared for a good cause. This album is only available for download today. If you purchase and plan to stream via your bandcamp collection, don't worry, I will keep the album private so you can still stream it.

Any money from sales of this release now and forever go to MY BLOCK MY HOOD MY CITY."
