The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Lake Mary - Once It's All On The Ground (Aural Canyon)

WHAT YOUR EARS SAY & THE COVER LOOKS LIKE

WHAT WE SAY

Ambient Americana is a wonderful thing, with the lap/pedal steel guitar imbuing the synthetic tones with a comforting familiarity. Add an ensemble, all with their real world instruments set to stun & the result is this wonderful super snuggly, sedentary suite courtesy of Lake Mary & friends for Aural Canyon.

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY

My friend Patrick sent me his new album to listen to before he released it to see if it was a good "ambient" album, and I was floored. I layed on the floor weeping and heartbroken. The only response I had was to sit at my lapsteel and record. This record started as a response to his, but became a place for myself to reflect on my own time during the pandemic. It has been a rollercoaster to say the least. There is a lot to say here about grief, despair and fog. Equally a lot to say here about the weight of re-meeting my family and friends after not seeing each other for so long, about playing music together again, about swimming and sun. A lot to say about how all we really have is each other and our time together and what we do with that and how that is more apparent now than ever. A lot to be said about how beautiful and pointless and heartbreaking and incredible it all can be. I hope this album can be a place and time for you to feel what you need to feel and process what you need to process. Thank you for being a part of it.
