The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Jörgen Kjellgren - Hollawood (The Slow Music Movement)

WHAT WE SAY:

Not that I'm biased but there can be only one recommendation today, the excellent new Jörgen Kjellgren EP on TSMM label. During the lockdwon he picked up his guitar late at night and in a hypnagogic state started contemplating the cosmic fringes of folk & Americana, the result is this stunning ambient folk EP. WHAT YOU EARS SAY:

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY:

Have you ever wondered what would happen if an ambient producer with a pop side project, picked up his guitar late at night and in a hypnagogic state started contemplating the cosmic fringes of folk & Americana? Here’s how it happened:

"There is this specific mood I get into sometimes late at night. Usually, there's a moderate amount of red wine involved, and I'll find myself looking out the window, not really thinking, just being there. Hollawood is a soundtrack to those nights.

During the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, I moved some gear from the studio I share with my wife into my daughter's room. Wanting to respect her space, I made do with my guitar, a sampler, and a few guitar pedals. That's what you're hearing. I hope you like it; I had a lot of fun making these tracks."

Feedback:
Andy Wilson (Ibiza Sonica) - "I’m also really enjoying the Hollawood ep , sits very nicely with the Raymond Richards LP on ESP and is great for poolside at Pikes and sunsets at La Torre."

Bill Brewster (DJ History) - "This is lovely, like a modern early Fleetwood Mac. Ta for sending."

About Jörgen:
