The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Great New Singles & Emerging Artists from the Independent Underground - October 27th, 2023

Arthrn - Shade Of Green (SELF RELEASE)

Vertical Divider
I'm a bit late to the Arthrn party - he released his latest LP in April, but better late than never It's a THC soaked, late night ambient excursion, with a couple of uptempo tracks thrown in to keep you on your toes. I've got a particular soft spot for the piano tickled soundscape & LP opener, it's obscure, precision placed sonic detailing accentuating its otherworldly hypnotism nicely.
Find it right at home in the Slowtronic Playlist.

SAXON FEAT HARVEY WHYTE - 001 (BAM)

Stumbling across Saxon was a pleasant surprise this week. He has a nice line in thoughtful, well delivered urban poetry about the relatable day to day grind & affairs of the heart, rather than insecurity cloaking bravado & getting murky in the estates. The production is refreshingly minimal too - spacious & vocal elevating rather than distracting, with his latest single given a classy, light touch jazz lick from from another shining London light, Harvey Whyte.
Find "001" in the Ambient Pop Playlist.

Tom Hunting- Northern Bells (SELF RELEASE)

Vertical Divider
Tom Hunting is a new kid on the ethereal block. There is little online information to go on, but I'm guessing he's a multi-instrumentalist with a bed by his digital workstation. He's obviously got a lot to say as he's released two cool LPs in the last year. The first a more electroacoustic ambient effort that flirts with neoclassicism & jazz, & now the more horizontal electronic "Ambient Works, Vol. 2", from which the "Northern Bells" single is taken. He's fresh in the game & one to watch.
Find him in the Slowtronic Playlist.

F'TANG - MORNING MIST (BLACK WIRE)

F'tang can be found floating around shorter haired, more cerebral rock outposts. They've been around for a while without putting too much out - you can hear the time spent familiarity & thoughtfulness in their new LP, and if math/post rocky instrumental sounds are your cuppa then check it out. I'm particularly fond of the good natured, chilled vibes of "Morning Mist".

Find it in the The New Age & Slow Balearic Playlists.

Felicity Estelle- Watcher (JOY STAR)

Vertical Divider
Felicity Estelle started making her move in 2022 with some fairly generic, polished pop, but I'm more interested in her latest singles, where she flexes her creativity to explore more distinctive, ethereal pop sounds. "Watcher" especially floats through the speakers a treat with it's post everything haze swirling around her sultry, nu-soul voice. Perfect for all sorts of low light, late night loving.
Find her sounding sweet in the Ambient Pop Playlist.

Montañera - Santa Mar (WESTERN VINYL)

Another week, another welcome Montañera single from her forthcoming LP (November 17th). This one deviates from the previous, vocal blessed soundscape abstractions. The hazy ambience is still there but the folkloric Latin vocals & recognisable instrumentation mark her out as proud Columbian who despite being a fearless sonic voyager, knows her musical roots.
