The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Great New Singles & Emerging Artists from the Independent Underground - October 10th, 2023

Smile High x Davion Farris x Cocoa Sarai - On the Way (Nettwerk)

Vertical Divider
Soulful muskateers Smile High, Davion Farris & Cocoa Sarai prove (much to my distress) that sometimes less is not more. Smile High is the guiding hand, laying down a lazy, classy & classic sounding lovers soul beat for the pleasingly distinctive vocals of both Farris & Sarai to flirt over in synergistic harmony. Killer nu-soul & boding well for the LP.
Find it currently kicking off the Slow Soul Playlist.

RBLN - DO YOU FEEL IT? (Self Release)

RBLN has a nice line in codeine soul dosed, post everything inner city sounds, that would sit well with the late night high grade crew - check the full LP if that's your thing. "On The Way, is the LP's moment of clarity, with the vocal refrain & uplifting synths riding a back alley marching riddim to offer a flickering candle in the album's low lit urban soundscape.
Find it in the Slowtronic Playlist.

Open EArs  - Radiate 360 (Self Release)

Vertical Divider
Open Ears is a new ambient kid on the block who has hit the ground running. His sophomore single is a classic, really well produced slice of ambient music, but I was drawn like a moth to the New Age light of his debut, which oozes  healing frequencies throughout the positively charged electronic vibrations & his local guru's guiding tones offering wellness wisdom. Check it, and more like it in The New Age of New Age Playlist.

Cochrane - Can’t Stay Home (Self Release)

After enabling other people's music for long enough, Cochrane has just unleashed his musical world view. Our focus is the "Can't Stay Home" single, a sprawling slice of far out jazz fusion aided by some dope keys from Erik Deutsch. It's an unrelenting groove that sweeps you along its ever darkening ten minute course without making you glance at the clock once. Find it in the Slow Jazz Playlist & check the LP for more dense, fusion soundscapes.
