The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Future Museums - Harpoon Of Sunlight (Aural Canyon)

WHAT YOUR EARS SAY & WHAT THE COVER LOOKS LIKE

WHAT WE SAY

If you're struggling with the concept of work after the weekend then the new Future Museums LP for Aural Canyon of rhythmic ambient, New Age nods and fluffy kosmische constructs should help ease the reality check & get you to the photocopier on time.

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY

Harpoon of Sunlight exists inside the infamous Texas summer. In the liminal space between shade and a blinding heat. In that sigh of relief as the sun dips below the tree line and a long awaited breeze announces it's presence. Recorded in quarantine (but not isolation) between June & August 2020, Harpoon emerged and transformed itself after weeks of demos attempting to perfect certain percussion sounds. Originally intended as an hour and a half long album exercising patience and repetition, the most melodic moments were cutaway to form the first vinyl release for both Future Museums and Aural Canyon. This is a statement on heat, on the pleasure of sunlight, and compassion surviving a historically tragic and traumatic cycle of seasons.
