The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Four More from the Independent Underground - May 6th, 2023

Oh Hooray - the wasteland (Self Release)

Vertical Divider
Loving this new track from Houston's Oh Hooray which reminds us to dig deep for our humanity in this world of gig economy jobs, contstant streams of bad news and just for good measure haunted by the anthropocene. Fittingly the message gets propelled by a distinctly modern 4/4 thud as the rose tinted folk instrumentation swirls around a post truth ambient haze. Find the track in the Slow Folk Playlist.

Josef Akin - Mchaze (Self Release)

I was more than happy to have stumbled across Josef Akin this week. Here he uses his keyboard prowess and some wisely chosen muso mates to celebrate the joys of THC saturation over a compelling, broken but grooving future jazz hop rhythm, presumably in a hybrid haze filled Studio.
Check him out in the Slow Jazz Playlist.

Alexander Grawoig - Third Movement (Chance Images)

Vertical Divider
There is an enormous amount of piano music about but not much combined with pedal steel, hurdgy gurdy drones, field recordings and the presented as a binaural soundscape (headphones recommended) but Grawoig effortlessly & enagingly ticks all those boxes in this minimal masterpiece. If this grabs you then sink into the new LP which ploughs a similar furrow to fine effect.
Find this track in the Slow Neoclassical Playlist.

Califone - Villagers (Jealous Butcher)

Rooted in American music tradition, Califone injects a bit of blue eyed soulful poprock, probably spends far too much time obsessing of obscure sonic details and then gives the yacht rocking vessel a mind expanding psychedelic twist or two just to keep you on your toes. This & the other 2 singles are boding very well for the May 19th LP.
Find him in good company in the Slow Psyche Playlist.
