The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Five More to Follow from the Independent Artist Underground - May 25th, 2023

Ancient Plastix - Daydream Research (Maple Death)

Vertical Divider
I was happy to stumble across Ancient Plastix this week; he seems to have a nice line in meandering, hazy, late night electronica that would be a fine soundtrack for any respectable hypnagogic moment that might envelope you, especially after a night on the dancefloor meds. Check this 3 track single and put the LP release date in your diary.
Find him right at home in the Slowtronic Playlist.

Huw Marc Bennett - Pinc Sunset (Albert's Favourites)

Bennett is becoming a bit of Slow Balearic Playlist regular of late, mainly due to his warm vibe and pleasing genre ambiguity which see him effortlessly blending folk, jazz and soul then giving the recordings a low THC content twist for good measure. If the singles are anything to go by then the summer release of the LP sounds well timed.

consule & Hatsü - One Single Moment (cedar)

Vertical Divider
If you need some soft edged electronica with plenty of sonic details to explore during those quieter moments or headphone sessions then look no futher than the new Hatsu & consule collaboration; the twinkling tonal percussion illuminates the slower pads, spectral vocals and hazy field recordings to pleasing juxtapoitional & lean back effect.
Find this in the Slowtronic Playlist.

Baba Lou - Hatari (INI Movement)

Tanzania meets Holland & bares a child, named Baba Lou; in this fine, funky slice of Afro-Dutch fusion brought about when Kees moved to rural Tanzania & discovered the local hospital was harbouring some serious musical talents! This reminds me of my global music DJing days in the Barcelona mestizo scene & is a sure fire party starter at any right thinking party.
Check them out in the Slow World Playlist.

Kaputo Baadaama - Sabu (Self Release)

Vertical Divider
Nothing new to report here - standard Afrobeats riddim, ubiquitous vocal effects, familiar synth sounds - tick. But they all just seem to work together that bit better than the  competition and then there is the effortlessly soulful, northern Ghanaian vocals of Baadaama that just tug at heartstrings & exert gentle but effective pressure on all emotional pressure points within ear shot.
Find him giving the Slow World Playlist a pop twist.
