The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Fiona Soe Paing - Sand, Silt, Flint (Coliderscope)

What Your Ears Say & The Cover Looks Like

What We Say

In a singles & EPs roundup I alluded to joys of this LP, but as I keep listening it only seems right to shine a brighter light on the album, in which Soe Paing's silvery stoicism tells Scottish folk tales new & traditional, over a decidedly 21st century blend of low lit folktronica that is the perfect soundtrack for wintery introspection.

What The Release Notes Say

Inspired by the folklore, landscape, language and rich balladry tradition of North East Scotland, each track on "Sand, Silt, Flint" is linked to a specific location and its story, with five new arrangements of traditional ballads, and five new compositions.
