The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

DJ Gigola - Fluid Meditations (Live From Earth)

What Your Ears Say & The Cover Looks LIke

What We Say

I'm ignoring the Euro dance on this LP to focus on the tracks where low end frequencies collide with ASMR guided meditation, breathing & wellness encouragement from DJ Gigola to create a Dub Yoga speedball for Live From Earth, that would be the perfect pre-club, get in the zone preparation for those rare occasions when nightclub social pressures are ignored, the crowd dissolves & movement to music is all that matters.

What The Release Notes Say

On her debut LP, she explores shared aspects of meditation and the dance experience, fusing them into a new form of introspective practice. Gigola expresses her approach through the lens of guided meditation with spoken word. Lyrically, she traverses three aspects in particular: awareness of the now, embodiment and unfolding of the ego. Her work presents these themes chronologically ordered in a continuous mix. The very personal compositions deliberately juxtapose leading themes of a virtual world, such as anonymity, the restlessness of online interaction, and the physical disembodiment.
We are guided through this process by her voice, which DJ Gigola places against a background of low-pass frequencies, field recordings, breathing techniques and ASMR. These are synthesised with a warp of organic percussions, goa, and psytrance - creating a meditation practice that goes beyond traditional methods by decontextualizing elements of rave as a catalyst for Gigola’s own exploration of escapism.
