The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

WHAT WE SAY:

Stylistically bobbing up and down somewhere in the mid-Atlantic and with a bit more ballast than your average folksters I'm happy to have finally picked up on this psychedelic, folk rock gem from Yorkshire's
Crooked Weather. On repeat this morning.

WHAT YOUR EARS SAY:

WHAT THE PRESS RELEASE SAYS:

They are mainly songs that have been born out of the ups and downs of spending a lot of life on the road. Sometimes everything just makes sense and you can’t understand how things could be anything but beautiful, yet at other times the bottom falls out, desperation takes hold and all seems lost.

Tracks 1-9 were recorded at Uber Studios in Hull with Rob Burgess. Between Rob, Holly and Will they covered basically all instrumentations. The exact breakdown of some of the more secondary instruments can’t quite be remembered. We consider this a good thing! All songs were primarily mixed at Uber with Rob, Holly and Will before they were sent over to Fairview to be remixed and mastered.

Track 10 was recorded at Fairview Studios in Hull with John Spence and had Holly and Will on vocals and guitar and Dave and Tom on drums and bass respectively.

John Spence at Fairview studios mixed and mastered all tracks.

Holly Blackshaw - Vocals and rhythm guitar throughout
Will Bladen - Vocals, rhythm and lead guitar throughout, slide guitar, bass
Rob Burgess - Drums, slide guitar, keys, bass
Beth Nicholson - Cello, track 1
Dave Tomlinson - Drums, track 10
Tom Skelly - Bass, track 10

All music is by Crooked Weather
Artwork is by Holly Blackshaw
Photo (and faithful roadie) credits go to Ella Blackshaw

This album is dedicated to Bari Razzaki. Most trusted friend, unofficial Crooked Weather member and a bright light to follow at any time. Peace.
