The Slow Music Movement Blog

Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but strongly advise you just hit play and make up your own mind.
There's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find these recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Cool New Singles & Hot New Artists - August 4th, 2023

NYsza - When The Purest Magic Breaks (ananya Panwar)

I usually tend to the Slam school of poetry but Nysza has converted me to her more genteel, equally as powerful take on modern verse, made all the more enjoyable because her sensual, cultivated vocals are riding a consummately self-played & produced electroacoustic ambient soundscape. She's a talented all rounder, go and say hello in The New Age of New Age Playlist.

GARZA - Way Out, Emancipator remix (Magnetic Moon)

Vertical Divider
I do like a bit of ethereal electronica & this heaven ascending remix of GARZA by Emancipator should get you to whichever higher plain you are aiming for. It's machine music that's had a a warm heart transplant, with its daydreamy synth sounds wrapped around dulled, pleasantly unobtrusive but still kinetic beats.
Find it in the Slowtronic Playlist.

Cooper T - Original (Foundation)

There's a certain irony to ´Cooper T's "Original" track title, being all I can think of when listening is Sleaford Mods does Madchester, but what new music doesn't get you thinking "It sounds like..." these days? I half-heartedly lived Madchester 3 hours south of its epicenter, love Sleaford Mods & it's about time more bands cut through the social media sheen & we're all in this together bullshit. I'm all in.
Find Cooper T adding some attitude to the Slow Pop Playlist.

Tools & Figs - Blackout, Sampology Edit (BBE Music)

Vertical Divider
Thankfully Sampology didn't go to town on this classic slice of early 90's South African dance music & why would you when it's such a compelling call to the dancefloor already, with its Afro-soul vocals, hypnotic motifs & bubbling bass? Wisely he just bumps up the tempo a tad to help the Euro-dancers, gives the production a modern polish, whilst retaining that raw, hip shaking essence that South African producers have been nailing for decades now.
Head to the Slow House Playlist for a proper listen.

Nora Brown & Stephanie Coleman - Copper Kettle (Jalopy)

Nora Brown has been hanging around with Stephanie Coleman of late & they seem to be getting along like a house on fire, staying out of trouble in the studio. Here they cover a classic, intertwining banjo & fiddle like a couple of bearded, grizzly old timers sitting around the campfire. It sounds like the future of US folk is facial hair free & in good hands.
Check them out in the Slow Folk Playlist.
