The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Chouk Bwa & The Ångstromers - Vodou Alé (Bongo Joe)

WHAT THE COVER LOOKS LIKE:
Picture

The Caribbean is a melting pot and Haitian Mizik Rasin has never been shy of Western influence, so a 2020 electronic makeover & window rattling bass injection from The Ångströmers for the old meets new world drum talk of Chouk Bwa for Bongo Joe Records is probably overdue & definitely most welcome.

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY:

Afro-Caribbean voodoo polyrhythms meet bass-weight dub electronics on Vodou Alé, the debut full-length collaboration between Haitian six-piece Chouk Bwa and Belgian production duo, The Ångströmers. The traditional and contemporary collide on this nine-track merger of distinct Haitian mizik rasin (roots music) and rumbling electronic production, forging a thrilling and hypnotic dialogue between minimalist sound design and Afro-Haitian drum talk.
