The Slow Music Movement Blog

Mostly we put our daily recommendations here for the blog readers among you, although occasionally we go longform.
Reading about music is a bit like looking at pictures of food - not nearly half as much fun as getting involved, so we scribble a brief intro to hopefully whet your appetite but you're better off just hitting play. Not very "slow" I know but there's a lot of music to check these days & hopefully you'll find the recommendations a handy filter.
Trust your ears, not opinions.

Alula Down - Postcards from Godley Moor, Autumn 2020 (Bandcamp Self Release)

WHAT THE COVER LOOKS LIKE:
Picture

WHAT WE SAY:

Great to hear Alula Down returning to Godly Moore, the catalyst for this year's most listenable avant garde folk LP, to forage for autumnal found sounds, which they then fused with their gently improvised, pleasingly experimental post-folk on this worthy sequel. I'm looking forward to the frostier February edition already.

WHAT YOUR EARS SAY:

WHAT THE RELEASE NOTES SAY:

The music we make has become place based, it happens here. Perhaps it could only happen here. It grows from connections, mistakes, intrusions, exploration. These are chance moments, and as John Cage puts it, recordings of such chance moments are “… of no more value than a postcard”.

Postcards then. From Godley Moor. With Love.

Credits

The lo-fi tracks are a collage of local field recordings, traditional & new original songs, and semi-improvised instrumentals. This album was created during the autumn of 2020, between the cross quarter days of Lammas and Samhain, and is being released to coincide with December's Bandcamp Friday. This album will be followed by ‘Postcards’ for Winter (in February 2021) and Spring (in May 2021), and was preceded by Postcards from Godley Moor, Summer in August 2020.

Digital downloads come with pdf copies of the limited edition cards.

All songs written / arranged by Mark Waters & Kate Gathercole.
Recorded and home mixed in the Radar Station.
Mastered by Ian Carter - many thanks Ian.
