I first stumbled across Trio Ramberget, a free spirited acoustic ambient trio from Sweden about five years ago with their 24 Ways series, and I've been blowing hot and cold, but always appreciating, their eclectic releases ever since, and that's without being aware of their film, dance and theatre work. For such a niche sound they're certainly keeping busy, and it's surely a sign that they're doing something very right.

They've also got an eponymous album on the way, which I'm guessing will be quite the statement of intent, as should any self-titled release, and to herald its January 1st, hopefully hangover friendly, release they've just dropped an eight and a half minute long single of low gravity trombone forward ambient music recorded in a huge oil cistern on a small island in the north of Sweden. As you do.
A distant, sparingly played trombone and what sounds like a bowed bass waft in from the distance to herald the tracks arrival, the polished brass lighting the way in the presumably low lit oil cistern with the strings content to lurk in the shadows and anchor the wind powered notes' reflections and reverberation as the instrument spirals to peak ambient in the first half of the track before descending back into the gloom to intertwine with the other instruments to more sedate, quietly experimental ambient ends, and refreshingly sound like nothing else around.
As this year has been defined by the rise of hopelessly generic, low quality AI music, which has gone from a standing start to 38% (the last time I looked - probably more now) of all music submitted, I give thanks to the music gods for artists like Trio Ramberget and their singular artistic vision, especially when they sound as good as this.
