the cover for plainhead's Before Game Changer, I Broke Free From The Chains Of The Love Song EP, showing three blurred silhouetted figures stand on a forest path, lit by bright reflections, creating an eerie mood.

Plainhead is led by the main man and co-founder of the decidedly underground, TSMM-approved new basement label and community out of Munich. They've been dropping guitar-led, electronic-driven music for a couple of years now, and are happy to work solo or drag in mates if band dynamics are required. Their debut was an indie-pop rocking affair, before the energy was dialled down a bit on their sophomore, and that's OK; constant partying is tiring and dull.

Munich indietronic group plainhead perform in a dark rehearsal room, one on keyboard, one on electric guitar, one on bass, with amps and cables around them.

The new basement roster excel in indietronica and "Before Game Changer" sets a fine example for others to follow. A drone and faint, skittering, quietly glitching, found sound percussion say hello before a dreamy, somewhat resigned vocal refrain and acoustic guitar drag the song out of bed, before ordering a double espresso of low-key rolling beats and electric guitar. Full consciousness achieved, beats, indie-pop acoustic guitar and indie-rock electric guitars are then looped and layered to fine effect - the song's innate melancholy conflicting with its bubbling energy, leaving you wondering whether to go back to bed and pretend the day's not happening, or dance on your own without smiling in the living room. Perhaps do both?
