The Trelleborg Connection - Route 108 (Flat Five) [Chill-Out]
The Trelleborg Connection are a Swedish pair: town resident and trumpet player Björn Edqvist, alongside hip hop producer and percussionist Gustave Lund from Stockholm, who has even beaten his drums on stage for Britney Spears no less. They've also got a keen ear for collaboration and have teamed up with the sax-playing Jonas Wall, as well as inviting all sorts of guest musicians to the studio.
An affable, pulsing, vintage synth refrain— quite possibly from a seventies TV show— and a looped shaker get the track rolling nicely, and it's not long before Edqvist floats a reflective trumpet line over the top to tick all my ambient jazz boxes. But hold tight, there's more to come; the metronomic shaker is soon joined by a muted 4/4 kick drum, which queues up some summer-primed, suitably seventies West Coast jazz guitar noodling from an artist unknown, although Big Mola is credited on synth bass, so perhaps he plays guitar too?
Personally, I was too busy chilling to worry much about the personnel; it's a great slice of laid-back, decade-spanning nu-jazz that sounds perfect in the beach-primed Slow Balearic playlist, and which will be floating around in the background during my downtime for some time to come. Vibes.
