Horizons has been a while coming. I originally sent Michael an email in December of 2022 suggesting a release, but it's been well worth the wait as he gamely juggled his day job, family and other recording projects to meet the challenge.
If you aren't already aware, Michael Cottone is a guitar playing graphic designer from Detroit's suburbs, who's been releasing ambient music himself and on some of the world's best ambient labels - Dronarivm, ROHS!, Lost Tribe & Sound In Silence, for almost 20 years to widespread acclaim.
The new LP on The Slow Music Movement ushers his melodic, string guided electronic explorations into more rhythmic territory. The loops are tightened, destinations reached rather than imagined and surprisingly for this zero gravity specialist, some soft edged beats occasionally pulse through the soundscapes, although they're more resting heartbeats than encouragement to move your body.
The LP is a warm, daydreamy delight and perfect listening for lazy Sunday mornings, sunset witnessed from orbiting space stations and all sorts of summer inactivity. I hope you enjoy it.
Huge thanks as always to Ian Hawgood who unfailingly makes the label releases sparkle that bit brighter with his mastering prowess, and Harriet Richardson for another eye catching flight of cover art fancy.
