Tessa Rose Jackson sits comfortably between countries and genres. She's a Dutch/British artist, composer, producer and just for good measure visual artist, who flits between being a recording artist and film composer. She's also got a nice line in eclectic, folk rockish singer songwriting, initially hiding behind her rather too mysterious Someone moniker, but now under her own name, and rightly so - she's got nothing to hide.

Tessa Rose Jackson lying on grass, illuminated by red light, wearing a pink top and blue jeans. The scene appears calm and contemplative.

After her beautifully crafted A Mirror Sometimes album which was released in January, and marked the start of a busy 2025, she's keeping the ball rolling with a series of autumnal singles which are nicely collected on her latest release, which showcase the breadth of her artistic vision and herald her 2026 album, so you can't fault her work ethic either.

"By Morning" sees Jackson at her most intimate, her tale of a romantic tiff laid bare over some simple but voice elevating, rather than distracting acoustic guitar, and which highlights her personal as well as musical honesty. She turns up the heat on, "Fear Bangs the Drum" which gets off to an easy folk rock start before sinking into microdosed genre ambiguity that somehow manages to incorporate some dub echos and soul horns along it's uplifting vocal way.

This great three track release rounds things off nicely. Some aged wood creaks signal the beginning of the end, and the start of a dreamy folk tale. "The Bricks That Make the Building" gazing up at Jackson's voice floating over its acoustic guitar, minimal piano and gradually unhinging low gravity arrangement. The single is a perfect three track Jackson snapshot or gateway listen if you're not familiar with her work, and bodes well for another January (2026) album.
