Information is thin on the ground, but originally from Hungary, Timëa is now based in the more reliably sun-blessed South-East of Australia, where she's rounded up a fine selection of the local musicians to realise her twentieth-century-rooted, modern folk visions.

Blue-toned portrait of folk artist Timëa in glasses, her face partly hidden by leafy shadows, creating a dreamy, moody effect

She's also just released her debut album, the suitably entitled for one so well-travelled, Here and There, and it's a fine collection of lyrically astute, beautifully sung, consummately played, largely classic sounding - albeit with a couple of gentle jazz infusions, folk music. Honestly, there's not a bad track on the album.

However, one track in particular stood that little taller than the others, and if you're short on time then head straight to the middle of the LP and hit play on "Letter". Timëa gets the ball rolling with a light touch, highly compelling acoustic guitar refrain, the perfect bed for her softly spun tale. With her calm yet catchy delivery that might have sufficed, but for the album she's rounded up quite the ensemble, and here co-producer Kyale McNally provides some less is more, low frequency warmth with his bass, as multi-instrumentalist Leon Holstegge caresses rather than crashes his drum kit to lightly propulsive, atmospheric ends, but hold tight for Blake Fernance's heart string tugging, icing on the cake cello work, his bowing melting perfectly into the arrangement; subtly elevated by some delicate, hardly noticeable electronic augmentation. It's a great tune from an accomplished debut LP- tune in.
