Rather like drummers, bass players tend to lurk in the stage shadows, not receiving quite the attention of other band members but Seodophy, the solo project of Lithuanian bassist and producer Teodoras Balčiauskis, is looking to propel the instrument into the limelight and within touching distance of the crowd.

To help with his make bass great again mission he's developing a very nice line in electronic fusion, combining his instrument with all sorts of electronic effects to take his bass playing into more ethereal and rarefied realms. He's also wisely inviting some musician mates to the studio to help him realize his vision when necessary.

He's just dropped a great new EP showcasing his nu-bass vision, with "losis" being my track of choice. A laid back rhythm courtesy of drummer Tamuz Dolev and an easy but insistent motif thread the track, anchoring the star bound song to earth's mission control. But it's not long before he creates ripples of intensity with some looping, rapid fire picking and reverb saturation, interspersing them with moments of calm and cosmic contemplation, it's a fine combination.
