The cover for Benjamin Draad, Mathi Egholt and Anders Skadhede aka Lips Glued's, "Pose in the Present" single, showing a blurred close-up of a face with prominent lighting and shadows creating a surreal effect. Elements of skin, hair, and light are visible.

A project focussing on modern life's hyper-stimulative reality is a welcome, all too rare, artistic acknowledgement of one of today's pressing, often unacknowledged issues. I mean look at this year's news cycle, it's been hard to catch your breath, let alone contemplate what is actually happening around the world.

Well, Benjamin Draad, Mathi Egholt and Anders Skadhede from Denmark, collectively known as Lips Glued and are giving their subject matter serious, rational consideration, then wrapping it up in emotive musical form - this is heart meets head music, and I'm happy to report sounding great - especially the new, dreamier, more sonically rounded material which better suits Egholt's distinctive vocal delivery than their solid, but somewhat restless debut EP.

Blurred image of Benjamin Draad, Mathi Egholt and Anders Skadhede aka Lips Glued, in a dim setting, wearing formal attire. Central figure leans forward. Mood is mysterious and ethereal.

After announcing their return to the alternative airwaves at the end of last year with the short, sweet, pleasantly quirky "Head in my Lap", "Pose in the Present" explores lazier, hazier, yet pretty life affirming, uplifting territory. Kicking off with a whisper the chilled electronica gradually builds, paving the way for the introduction of that voice: Egholt's vocals genuinely, and most refreshingly don't sound like too much else - harking back to twentieth century crooners, but with a decidedly alternative, otherworldly style - it's in the easy listening section, just lightly opiated, quietly stoned and possibly parallel dimensional.

The composition also peeks in the rear view mirror to the classier sounds of seventy five years ago, albeit through an ambient post-rock, cultured chill out lens. There's a glow to the unhurriedly building song, the strings replaced by more economical digital alternatives, and augmented by a light saxophone breeze and soft touch guitar work; the sounds initially floating, then occasionally soaring through the speakers; at all times elevating the delightfully vague lyrical content, consummately delivered by Egholt.

More please.
