Jules Reidy - Clerestory Windows V (Thrill Jockey) [Experimental]

Originally from Naarm, Australia, and currently based in Berlin, Jules Reidy is a singular, uncompromising, provocative fingerstyle guitarist, composer and experimental producer. They're also a keen collaborator partial to microtonal tunings and genre-fluid compositions, not shy of exploring themes of devotional love, transcendence, and dissolution, whilst simultaneously evoking states of uncanniness, dissociation, imagination and the void. And you can't say that about too many artists.

Recently Reidy has been creating with the string playing JACK quartet, a natural fit considering both have a strong interest with intonation, and Reidy's new album contains some of the fruit, coupled with their solo interpretations, and is in the Thrill Jockey pipeline for late September.

On this second taster, Reidy heads off on a solo mission to refract part of the collaborative work; first showcasing the "fundamental" with insistent, minimal electronic refrains that scurry over the more considered guitar, before the machine noise makes a sharp exit to leave Reidy alone and in contemplative mood, with just their guitar for company. But it's not long before even their stringed companion heads for the door, revealing the faintest of sine waves - which will have you searching for a grounding issue with your house wiring,  to see the piece out,
