Jazzanova - In Between (Remixes) [Sonar Kollektiv] [Future Soul]

Jazzanova and Sonar Kollektiv, alongside Compost Records, were the Nu-Jazz guiding lights in Germany at the end of the nineties, early noughties. They dug deep, had all the right vintage jazz, soul and disco in their racks, were great eclectic DJs (I remember one memorable late night set at Gilles Peterson’s Monday sessions at Bar Rumba in particular) and top producers, who delighted in giving the classic sounds of twentieth century black music a new millennial makeover, often in distinctive fashion.

In-Between was a classic LP from 2002 which was pretty much peak nu-jazz, that unlike much of the sample heavy more generic output of the time, still stands up today, but choice remixes that give great tracks a polish are always welcome and that’s exactly what this selection offers.

The remixers are impeccably chosen and all top drawer - Jacana People, Eric Hilton (Thievery Corporation), The KBCS, Nautilus, DJ Slowz, Magro, Crackazat, Paskal & Urban Absolutes, Kid Fonque, Groove Chronicles, and Satin Jackets, and the appreciation was obviously mutual, no one took the money and ran. So if you want to hear what jazz, beats, soul and deep house sound like in the hands of people that know the roots and care about the future then tune in.
