Georgi Krastev - Firestorms

Georgi Krastev - Firestorms cover art

Perhaps I've missed something, but is dream folk-pop having a moment? I seem to be unearthing quite a bit of it at the moment, and I have to say I'm here for it.

Today's shining example is from Georgi Krastev. Bulgarian born but Canadian raised, which I guess means a leg up the musical ladder (go on name me a famous Bulgarian artist), he's just arrived at TSMM towers with this, his new single, and the door is open.

Georgi Krastev press shot

A quick investigation reveals that he's been releasing music for five years now and hitting play on a few of the tracks reveals a steady stream of dreamy, soft edged, pop tinged folk, coupled with some sparser, but equally pleasing indie-folk vibes minus the synths and sustained notes bleeding into each other. He's got a vibe, a great voice and can certainly play his instrument. Any readers that were feeling the recent Vraell release I reviewed will surely be satisfied.

The new track starts with some aching strings that lay out the red carpet for some gentle finger picking. A twinkling, gently insistent synth loop shines its light through the crack in the curtains, and some more substantial synth pads firm things up a bit lest the somewhat melancholic vocals fall through the cracks. It's an introspective yet comforting track and will be a fine companion for any reflective moments that you might be having this weekend.

Playlist Companion

Due to the high dream quotient you can find "Firestorms" joining the other ethereally minded artists in the Ambient Pop Playlist. Check it out, you might like it.
