The cosmically named Dan Planet, sometimes known by his weekend name Somatic, is an eclectic electronic music producer from Montreal, who is equally at home exploring the ambient condition as he is troubling sub-woofers and brain cells with rave propelling drum and bass, not to mention being able to have a serviceable crack at pretty much every genre in between.

His latest transmission sees him mining deeper, dub imbued downtempo realms. The EP title track gets the ball rolling with some otherworldly atmospherics cut through with alien vocal frequencies which ride an unhurried, muted bass drum. Sparse hi-hats then urge the tune through the speakers as the atmosphere becomes denser with dubbed out machine noises and late night tower block synth-pads to keep the THC crew trippin'.
"Tubing" has a similarly warm and even denser lower frequency spectrum and turns up the ambience to max, before suddenly leaping into life with some rhythmic, effected and echoing percussion, encouraging all the space cadets to stay awake without breaking a a sweat, whilst providing the cosmic atmospherics their stoner dreams demand. Things get almost energetic on "1401", if you can call nodding your head energetic, as some crunchy hip hop beats remind us there is more to the genre than Drake and Migos; as he eschews catchy breaks for a synth palette that is set to stun rather than gold chained, Champagne drinking, butt spanking fun. "I know" rounds things off nicely, easing us out with its dub techno nodding joys that would appeal as much to Berlin's after the after party casualties as it does to me.
If you need some deep electronic vibes that plump up your sofa cushions whilst taking you on an outer dimensional ride then look no further.
