Damian Scholl is a German composer who started his musical journey playing the violin. Originally from rural Franconia, he swapped the sounds of nature early on to further his compositional ambitions by studying in Glasgow, Potsdam and Berlin, where he now resides, and has been composing both traditional and electro-acoustic music for solo instruments up to symphonic orchestras as well as film since 2017, becoming a lot more prolific in the last couple of years.

“On Paths Forgotten” is hopefully the start of an ambient phase for this increasingly in demand composer and musician, it certainly ticks a lot of my boxes - minimal real world instrumentation, subtle field recordings that hover in the background making you wonder about their provenance and light touch electronic augmentation.
Scholl's certainly got a deft hand on the mixing desk too, the various sounds synergise rather than struggle for supremacy; the elongated piano notes land softly on the well placed synth cushions and what sounds like natural water sounds, or is it leaves rustling, or both? Either way this is a lovely soothing slice of piano guided ambient music suitable for all your more contemplative moments.
