daily rituals - how to measure absence (Self Release) [Ambient]

Another masterly & meditative ambient tapestry from interdisciplinary artist and ambient/experimental composer Brandon Tani aka daily rituals, from his San Diego base.
On his new LP he continues to explore the existential shadows; blowing the dust off forgotten instruments & making them sing again, field recording the mundane & kindling it until it provides flickering light & peering in life's nooks & crannies to marvel at the sombre beauty most ignore.
If you need some more daily rituals ambient music in your life, and I wouldn't blame you, then check out his all the ways in which I am mute album.

What The Release Notes Say
'how to measure absence' is about overlapping experiences/moments. a sort of collage and assembly of intervals. it's a record about reference - exploring how the internal and external become hazy with enough perspective and time.
within all that it's also about how those layered ways of existence reframe things like loss and absence and silence.
---------------------------------------------------
i have inherited
two pasts
& experience them
imbricated -
as figures on
distant cliffs. small &
playing stories.
naming the sand crabs
all the names they have
since collected.
unacquainted
with existence.
that is to say,
they have not yet searched
for an empty room to fill
with an image of themselves.
to hold these cycles closely.
with sequence
& with unison.
feel them open inward
in times of labyrinth.
when the sky turns
the timbre of glass.
a pale neckline.
ozone sweat &
red earth humming.
a tongued birdcall -
held still in air.
