Montreal-based, multi-instrumentalist Clay Hazey is an easygoing country music fella who can do the business in and out of the studio, is moving with the times and not afraid to take the odd left turn along the way.

Pretty new to the game, having only released one EP in 2024, "Tulips sees him gearing up to cement the early promise with its spring follow-up, and refreshingly, it seems he's stylistically stretching out a bit from his accomplished, but fairly straight-ahead, self-titled debut.
"Tulips" marks him out as an adept songwriter with a wry take on the human condition and Canada's climatic challenges. Initially easing us into the tale with a mellow, inviting acoustic refrain, he doesn't waste any time introducing us to this intimately recorded, disarmingly honest yarn. Once he's got you settled, he sets about gradually warming the song's waters before introducing some edgier, insistent, but well-judged fiddle and moments of raw, quivering vocal emotion - the necessary edgier foils for his largely affable, yet bittersweet musing on the sad, slow endings of once flourishing relationships. Make sure, especially if you're country inclined, that you look out for him and the EP.
