I think it's fair to say that the funk doesn't flow strongly in Russia, but Moscow's The Diasonics - Daniil Lutsenko (electric guitar), Kamil Gazizov (keyboards), Maksim Brusov (bass), and Anton Moskvin (drums & percussion), are changing that one grooving, swinging tune at a time, ably aided since 2022 by Milan's keepers of the funk flame, Record Kicks.

Their latest single, and first taste of their forthcoming October 3rd album - Ornithology, has just dropped and it might well herald the start of a slightly more expansive sound from their unrepentantly "funky drummer" driven, Origins of Form LP.
Kicking things off is as fluid, bumping a bassline as your dancing feet could hope to meet, which will get even the most wall glued party attendees looking for the shortest route to the dance floor. The drums take a break from that classic J.B. drum break to explore more 4/4 disco realms and I'm all for it, but just hold tight for the keys, which alternate between a playful Italo motif and more cosmic disco vibes with the guitar taking one for the team by sitting back, content just to throw in some perfectly judged funky chops from the side of the stage, that elevate rather than clutter this fun times party groove.
Get your party started with this and put that album date in your diary.
