The cover for Japanese ambient artist Tatsuya Shimazaki's White Pieces album, showing a black-and-white close-up of hanging rectangular swatches or tags lined up against a wood surface, creating a repetitive pattern.

It's always nice to discover a new ambient artist from Japan's seemingly endless pool of horizontal music practitioners. Tatsuya Shimazaki/嶋崎 達也i has been honing his craft for the last 5 years & his new LP demonstrates a heightened understanding of electroacoustic symbiosis, deftly blending guitar, keys and electronics to explore the ambient spectrum & ease you into the new year.

If you're enjoying this, you might want to try Leon Todd Johnson's wa kei sei jaku album, it's a wonderful thing.
