Storyinsoil is a nicely name, somewhat mysterious producer from New Orleans with a fondness for modular cable entanglement, thoughtfully named tracks and creaky old tape machines, who prefers to let a lone profile picture, studio images and his music do the talking.

He's also just released a nice new EP on Optik Muzak - a home town label. The mood is perhaps a touch darker than I usually go for but I couldn't ignore the deep space evoking, shape shifting slice of ambient drift of "The Plangent Chord, The Breaking String, The Lyre Untuned" the EP opener, with its pleasingly weighted low end, attention to sonic detail and simple but seductive changes in tone and hence mood. If sci-fi indebted cinematic ambient is your thing then you'll be imagining deep space exploration in no time.
Whilst you're there check out the rest of the LP, there's a real quality to what he's producing and on this particular release something for most ambient palettes from the space friendly "The Ecstasy of Fools Gold" to the somewhat edgier and darker shades of "Did You Lose Me".
