The cover for Christian Gunning aka SHELF NUNNY's "Koorsoo" single, showing a silhouette of a lighthouse at sunset surrounded by stars. People stand nearby. Text: "KOOR.500" and Arabic script. Calm, dreamy mood.

Shelf Nunny, known as Christian Gunning to his family and friends, is an electronic producer from the Pacific Northwest of America now residing in somewhat dustier Oregon. He's been releasing music via Bandcamp for a while now, ratcheting up the frequency, and quality, about seven years ago, and has developed a really nice line in cultured, eclectic electronic music, including several releases on the ever-great, TSMM-recommended Hush-Hush label, just in case you needed any further encouragement to check him out.

Christian Gunning aka SHELF NUNNY stands on a rocky cliff edge in a dry, rugged landscape with bushes. He looks pensive under a light blue sky.

Koorsoo, apparently, is a Persian word that roughly translates to "faint glimmer of hope" - an apt track title for this optimistic and uplifting slice of electronica, that shines its light into dark corners with its man-guided, machine-made luminescence, and which was inspired by Gunning's frustrations at being an under appreciated artist of quality (my words not his), who can't fight the urge to keep creating, despite the lack of recognition and oddly widespread indifference.

The track really does glow right from its filtered ambient start to the steadily evolving percussive glitchiness and effected vocals, and show a rare lightness of touch and attention to sonic detail, to speckle and permeate through the glowing and glistening pads and warm bass. It's a spirit-lifting slice of electronic music and bodes well for the album. Keep an eye on this guy.
