The cover for Samuel Ruddick and Jeremia Reichen aka S. Salter's "Sunday In Bloom" single, showing a dark overlay of flowers and trees in a park, with people and headstones visible. Text: "S Salter Sunday In Bloom." Moody atmosphere.

S. Salter are a geographically estranged European duo: Amsterdam-based, Brit abroad, pianist and composer Samuel Ruddick and Swiss emigré, producer and sound designer Jeremia Reichen, now based in Berlin, who are slowly but surely making a well-deserved name for themselves in the ambient piano world with their pleasingly minimal, perfectly balanced electroacoustic compositions and choice collaborations.

Samuel Ruddick and Jeremia Reichen aka S. Salter perform at a table with electronic equipment in a dimly lit room. A spotlight creates dramatic shadows. Black and white scene.

Their new single, "Sunday In Bloom", with its focus on capturing the often overlooked moments of beauty in an unforgiving world and unrelenting flood of bad news on every screen we stare at, has arrived just at the right time to offer respite to our doom-scrolling-induced angst.

A gentle piano caress takes us by the hand and leads us into the song, soon joined by some subtle, indeterminate field recordings that pepper the reverberating keys and which are soon joined by a slowly rising tide of ambient endeavour: shimmering synths, additional found sounds, twinkling tones and choice, machine-made, precision-placed sounds that all find their place and help insulate the serene, seemingly oblivious piano from our cruel world, as it ambles unhurriedly and unworriedly through the speakers, comforting all those fortunate enough to press play on this great track. It's as holistic and soothing a slice of ambient piano as you'll find this year; switch off your phone for a moment and sink into it.
