POSY - The Garden (Bastard Jazz)

It didn't take me long to get into soul music, or punk, techno and reggae for that matter. As good as the 80's pop scene was, although admittedly I didn't realise it at the time, and egged on by John Peel's radio show, the lure of the underground, alternative and far flung was too strong and I soon outgrew the Top 40.

Being break dance curious I started visiting Northampton clubs hidden away in church halls and function rooms where I could watch the action. Quite often the nights were progressive soul nights where you could also get an early taste of Chicago house alongside Luther Vandross and those early b-boy jams. A seed was planted, later to blossom into a full on jazz, funk, blues, deep disco and soul love affair.

Although my musical tastes have broadened even further and I listen to less soul as a consequence I know a good thing when I hear it and I'm feeling the multi-instrumental and musical mature POSY, who is cracking on with crafting some classy soul, jazz and instrumental jams imbued with all that's good from various 20th century black music golden ages and blending them with the sunnier, more laid back and conscious end hip hop beat making.

As well as his obvious knack for string and horn adornment, an appreciation for spiritual depth and hip hop snap, he's also got a great ear for vocal and musical collaborations. On the LP he's enlisted Tien Viet Nguyen and Jennyfire for some serious as your life vocal duty, as well as BrandonLee Cierly and Seb Zillner for added musical depth on a couple of tracks, despite the fact that his accomplished solo studio work could easily stand on its own two feet.

If you're looking for a Sunday morning or late night loving soundtrack, or perhaps an LP to while away the miles on a sedate Pacific Coast Highway drive then look no further. You can also check out the killer Jennyfire collaboration, "Dreaming In Blue" in the Slow Soul Playlist.
