Those paying attention to the playlists might well have come across Mattr already? Born in Birmingham, the other side of the Midlands from my home town of Northampton (yes, England is not just the North and South), and now living in London, he's got a nice line in twisted house, cultured IDM and all sorts of electronic music strains; the production is tight, forward looking and the sounds are deep, I like him.

His new single starts with some future breaks and the sort of teasing sonic details and ghost in the machine vocal manipulation that let's you know you're in for a trip, and which only comes from spending too much time in the studio worrying about sound design. This time round he's opted for dance floor wonderment than devastation. Ambient pads float through the speakers and that sound design really gets cooking to add some fidgety energy, with all sorts of shimmering, sparkling machine sounds and synth refrains looping and lolloping around. The rhythm bumps rather than drives - one for the half-steppers, but there's a future funkiness which means this is perfect for those more patient DJs, who like to play longer sets and gentle lower the club energy levels on occasion before unleashing their next set of bangers.
This is electronic music for the head as well as the hips, perfect headphone music to soundtrack the urban bustle surround you or ambient music for those with things to do.
