Matt Storm - mtv unplugged (Self Release) [Soul / Alt-Pop]

America born, overseas raised and wisely Canada residing, Matt Storm knew from his early teenage years that music was the way forward, and he's been working on his storytelling, compositional chops, playing, production and distinctive, soul-soaked vocal delivery ever since; and it's that soul vein that anchors his stylistic restlessness - providing regular listeners with a seductive, simultaneous feeling of familiarity and sonic adventure.

Microdosed acoustic intimacy is the order of the day on "mtv unplugged", and when you listen to music all day, it's great to hear someone with distinctive vocal tones pushing against the flow. After setting up an up-close and personal scene with some inviting acoustic guitar looping, low-frequency hum and gentle picking, he then starts his husky, blue-eyed soulful tale of striving for freedom and independence in today's increasingly homogenous, bland, corporate-dictated world. The disarming voice beckons you closer, gently suggesting you close your eyes and contemplate how you spend your all too few laps around the sun, whilst the hazy, pleasantly woozy acoustic setting suggests you too should choose an alternative path. Tune in and drop out.
