This is the cover for Jamie Leeming's, Thinking of Yesterday single featuring Kaya Thomas-Dyke. It shows the artist's names and the song title in bold, gold lettering on a textured, muddy dark red and brown background.

Jamie Leeming first appeared on TSMM's pages with his great debut album, Resynthesis and has been hanging around with all the right names - Alfa Mist, Sly5thAve and Tom/Laura MIsch to name a few, all lining up to work with this talented jazz guitarist, and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. The London jazz continuum has another safe pair of hands on the rudder.

Sequent, Leeming's sophomore album is on its way as well - September 19th to be precise, and the singles are starting to leak out to build some anticipation, and this collaboration with the sweet voiced, bass playing Kaya Thomas-Dyke is a laid back, nu-soul diamond that will sparkle though the summer and long beyond.

Apparently on the new LP, vintage recording techniques are the order of the day, and are just what this soft edged, gentle slice of soul music deserve; over compression and digital heavy handiness would not treat its subtleties well. Leeming sets a mellow course from the off, devising a contemplative, hypnotic motif that along with the caressed rather than struck percussion, some textural acoustic strumming and Thomas-Dyke's minimal bass work weave a warm, borderline blissful tune with which to elevate rather than distract from those vocals, and boy does Thomas-Dyke deliver. Her tale of yesterdays, rather like the rest of the band's contributions, are effortlessly soulful and soothing, each member adopting a minimal approach, sacrificing ego for a collective effort that is so much more than its parts, sometimes less is more.

This is sweet lovers or Sunday morning soul at its finest and boding well for the album. Roll on September 19th.
