I'm one song into Glass' world and I'm sold already. Born in Australia, Seattle formed and now residing in the big bad city of New York where she studied jazz voice and fortunately bumped into TSMM fave Francis Harris who helped record E, her debut LP forthcoming by the ever great Shelter Press imprint. If that fortuitous/well chosen path wasn't enough she's also a dab hand at the piano, which she taught herself by ear when she was a child, so I guess she's mostly been writing her own script all along.

The gentle caress of a piano immediately sets a mellow tone, immediately joined by a thoughtful, some would say downright melancholic, opening line, "I'm living on borrowed time". Fortunately that potential show stopped dissolves into musings on life's chance encounters aided by the warm, minimal plucks of an upright bass, to help rescue the listener from the introspective abyss and deliver them to a safer contemplative realm.
The song then proceeds along a fairly well worn, mellow, vocal jazz course albeit with some great vocal layering that augments rather than distracts from the undoubted star of the show - that voice, which although not immediately distinctive, rapidly seduces you with its deep soulfulness, intimacy and purity. This is just the first single from the promised April 25th LP, but with the promise that it has an enigmatic electronic bent, which should further elevate this rising star from the stiffer, more familiar competition, it's in my diary and I'm counting down the days.
