Disinblud arrived to an unsuspecting world this summer with their suitably genre fluid debut album that did justice to their “wordless conversation” orbiting such themes as mortality, reinvention through destruction, and sublimating fractured histories into music. It was a serious statement of intent from experimental guitarist Rachika Nayar and the equally adventurous multi-instrumentalist Nina Keith. The album had a ton of great guests too, you should listen.
Well they're keeping the ball rolling and the remix album is about to drop on December 5th, and once again they phoned all the right people - The Field, Cis Angel, Baths, Daedelus, Kerry McCoy and in this case Kelly Moran.
The original of "Blue Rags, Raging Wind" was a fine slice of piano led, string and ethereal choral vocal imbued minimalism that morphed at half time into transcendent acoustic prog before fading out into a graceful neoclassical void. It was low key epic. So what does Kelly Moran go and do?
Well a mellow patient ambient classical start is a nice way to go, especially when you've got five minutes to fill. The strings and pads are then joined by the original vocals, just more disembodied this time round. Gentle keys twinkle through the fuzzy ambience before those minimal bells, not wanting to have their minimal joys forgotten, make a second half appearance ushering in a more intense, glitching and stuttering passage before the tasteful ambient piano outro. Same, same but different and a cultured, curious but slightly less meandering, more immediate take on the sprawling original whilst retaining its charm, just what a good remix should do.
