Benny St. Peixe, Mikhayla Robinson - The Gospel As Told By Black Love [Spoken Word]

Benny St. Peixe is a bass player, writer and improviser taking life easy and sending out low frequency rooted, positively vibrating electroacoustic transmissions from his Atlanta home. For his latest sonic dispatch he's teamed up with educator, community activist, poet and spoken word force of nature, Mikhayla Robinson. They're quite the team.

The pair have just released an album which, if you like my focus track, you really need to take a moment and sink into it. Robinson has a lot to say and it's all positive, socially and emotionally progressive and worth hearing, and Peixe provides a series of soothing, meandering, low gravity electroacoustic soundscapes which elevate rather than distract from the seductively delivered meditations on the human and spiritual condition.

The stars really align though on "The Gospel As Told By Black Love", the album's parting shot. Robinson muses on love, intimacy and devotion - all those good things that, at least from the world's movers and shakers, seem in all too short supply. Peixe for his part senses the message's importance and rises to the occasion with a string and synth powered spiritual jazz vibe that is as blissful as it is meaningful, and which channels cosmic forces that we only occasionally sense into audible tellurian forms.
