Known as Gil Brown to her family, Arkanna is a Scottish singer-songwriter and producer from Scotland who has a nice line in mixing her rarefied vocals with electronic textures and beat science.
I stumbled across this single, that was first released in 2021 during a TSMM supported release flurry and, in the absence of any new material since, thought it deserved a second wind.
The song starts somewhat disingenuously in Celtic folk fashion with what sounds like the plucks of a harp, but any tradition is briskly dispelled by some solid beats that anchor the ambient electronica, sparingly used string refrain and the undoubted star of the show Arkanna's voice, that floats serenely through the machine made atmosphere looking for answers and light in the existential shadows, that seem to be thickening far too quickly for my liking at the moment.
