Aleksi Kinnunen is a Finnish musician, producer, audio engineer and educator who's been playing the drums since he was six, the trumpet since he was eight, dabbling with electronics for longer than most and inspired by Miles Davis' far out fusions from the seventies, what's not to like?

I'm not sure why but the Nordic countries seem to produce more than their fair share of laid back and far out jazz, and although Himanen is perhaps better known for his more uptempo, often club suitable fusions with Aleksi Kinnunen, he's dropped the bump for his new solo work has decided to float rather than pump through the speakers.
Distant ethereal trumpet and fluffy ambient clouds arrive simultaneously to put you immediately at ease, plump up your cushions and start to massage your temples, but man and machine soon start to swirl and synergise, weaving cosmic patterns that slowly unlock your doors of perception so you too can see the light shining through from their parallel dimensional homes.
It's as fine a slice of ambient jazz that you'll hear all year, and I'm here for it. Let's hope there's more to come.
