Sólstrauman - How The River Flows (Remix by Saltbreaker)

It's nice to see ethereally inclined vocalist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Sólstrauman (Sunniva Strauman Halstensen) back in the blog already after her assured debut LP from the end of last year for Re:memory. If you missed it then get with the program, it's a TSMM attuned blend of ambient blessed Norwegian folk, chamber pop and Nordic field recordings.

Sólstrauman press shot

To keep the ball rolling she's headed over the Atlantic and enlisted Detroit's Saltbreaker to reimagine "How The River Flows", which he does with ambient aplomb, The original was a gently piano led, slice of ambient alt-pop with an affecting, fragile vocal and imbued with ambiguous field recordings giving the track grainy, outsider appeal.

On the remix Saltbreaker opts for a warmer, smoother approach by largely ditching the surface noise and the minimal piano lines, exchanging them for more comforting sonic swathes that wrap themselves around Sólstrauman vocal essence, raising the ambient temperature and rounding off the unpolished edges of the original for an all together smoother, serene excursion.

Let's hope there are more well chosen remixes in the pipeline
